Gift Aid Explained

Why are there two different admission prices?

Under the Gift Aid scheme amendments introduced by the Government in April 2006, charities who offer entrance to an attraction based on Gift Aid donation rather than an admission ticket must ask visitors to pay 10% extra than the normal admission fee. It is your choice whether you wish to Gift Aid or not. If you do decide to Gift Aid your admission we can claim back from the Government 25% of the total amount that you pay, this equates to the Income Tax that you have already paid on this money. This is why you can only participate in the Gift Aid Scheme if you are a UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax Payer and you confirm that you have paid or will pay an amount of UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for the current year that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) you donate to will reclaim for the current tax year. Council Tax and VAT do not qualify for the scheme.

Who gets the money?

John Clare Cottage is owned and administered by The John Clare Trust, a non-profit making charity committed to the furthering of development and the preservation of John Clare Cottage, its collections and environment. All income is put into the preservation and running.
